Episode Description:

If you are interested in setting and achieving goals than this episode is for you! By using S.M.A.R.T goals you can create wins for yourself that will create motivation and inspiration. This helps build momentum for setting more ambitious goals that can be quickly achieved! In fact, some would say all you have to do is WRITE IT DOWN to make it come true!

Action you can take right now:

  1. Get a notebook!
  2. Without giving too much thought, start writing out a list of goals – don’t worry about an order.
  3. Review your goal list after writing it, and REWRITE the goals in order from most important to least important.
  4. Repeat this exercise daily!
  5. Use the SMART framework and set some goals on your top three items.

Episode After-Thoughts

This was the most interesting episode to re-listen to. Most of the time, I listen to an episode a two or three weeks after it’s recorded. While a lot happens in a few weeks, the content is still usually fresh in my mind. However, when interviewing someone or recording a podcast there are many distractions. Did I ask the questions I wanted to ask? Am I keeping within my time frame of about 30 minutes? Are my levels correct? Is the audio of the guest clear? Is it being recorded? Is this a good part I should pull for an audio-gram? Oh – good point – let me write this down. The distractions go on and on. Unfortunately, this takes you somewhat out of the moment. I often catch things and learn things from guests when I relisten to the published episode a few weeks later.

In this case, going back and hearing myself from a year and a half ago was very strange. Especially hearing myself talk about goals and progress with the retrospect in my head of the past 6 months. I cringe at my cadence and pauses and not so great edits, but I also have an appreciation that 1.5 years later, I’m still on track, I’m still working on and progressing in the goals I had set forth earlier – and that the SMART Framework is something that has worked very well for me!
